The Muskegon Community College Jayhawk Softball Team wrapped up the Western Conference Championship with a pair of wins over visiting Jackson College, 4-3 and 8-0 (5 innings).
In the opener it was a pitcher’s dual with the teams tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the 6th inning. Makayla Thompson (Reeths-Puffer) hit a fly ball to the right field line that landed for a triple and Maddison Mettler (Mona Shores) grounded out to first base to score Thompson for the go-ahead run. Thompson picked up the win on the mound by scattering 8 hits and striking out 4. Hayden Ruel (Oakridge) led off the game with a home-run and Annika Roersma (West Catholic) was 3-3 with 2 RBI.
Thompson came back to the mound for the second game and dominated the Jackson bats in a 5 inning mercy rule shut out. She gave up only 2 hits and 2 walks with 3 strikeouts for the victory. Ruel stayed hot at the plate with a 2-3 game and Kendyll Bond (Jenison) was also 2-3. Morgan Knapp (Whitehall) hit a 3 run homerun in the bottom of the 3rd.
MCC closes out the regular season with a 22-6 conference record, 32-8 overall. They will host Eastern Conference Champions, Oakland Community College on Wednesday, 5/4 to determine the MCCAA Championship.
