The Muskegon Community College Softball team defeated Lake Michigan College, 8-0 (6 innings) and 5-4.
Makayla Thompson (Reeths-Puffer) dominated the Red Hawk bats in the opener, giving up only one hit and one walk with 6 strikeouts. MCC carried a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th when they put up 6 runs for the run-rule win. Willow Staal (Fruitport), Kendyll Bond (Jenison) and Hayden Ruel (Oakridge) all had 2 hits for the Jayhawks.
Game two was a closer game, with Lake Michigan out-hitting MCC 8-7, but the Jayhawks took advantage of some Red Hawk errors for the win. Bond worked a complete game for the victory and she was also 2-3 with a double to help her own cause. Ruel finished the game 3-4 and Annika Roersma (West Catholic) picked up 2 RBI with a homerun.
MCC is now 16-5 in the Western Conference and 26-7 overall. They finish the season with 7 games in the next 4 days, starting with the conclusion of the Kalamazoo Valley game on Thursday, 4/28. First pitch for the single game is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
