The MCC Women’s Basketball team was on the road for a conference matchup at Alpena Community College and came home with a 70-51 victory.
The Jayhawks showed up with determination and intensity after a tough loss Wednesday. MCC had a good 1st quarter, outscoring Alpena 29-19. Both teams struggled to score in the 2nd quarter, but MCC took a 40-28 head at the half. Alpena outscored MCC in the 3rd quarter, but the Jayhawks bounced back to double up the Lumberjacks in the 4th quarter for the final margin of victory. “We played well in spurts,” said Coach Jason Cooper. “The Newaygo connection of Kayla and Emmy really came through for us today.” Calla Miller (Fremont) led the Jayhawk scorers with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Emmerson Goodin (Newaygo) had 15 points and 8 rebounds, Karleigh Jeffries (Whitehall) finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds and Kayla Fisk (Newaygo) added 10 points and 5 steals.
MCC is 6-3 in conference play and 15-7 overall. They travel to take on GRCC in a key conference match up on Wednesday, 2/15 with the tip scheduled for 5:30 pm.
