The Jayhawk Women’s Basketball team came home with a 61-53 victory over the Grand Rapids Community College Raiders.

MCC got off to a slow start as they struggled to get their offense on track and they were outscored 17-8 in the 1st quarter. They doubled their output in the 2nd quarter but still trailed by 6 points at the half. The Jayhawks offense started to roll in the 3rd quarter as they outscored the Raiders 21-9 and they cruised to the win. “Tonight was a tale of two different teams, our first half was not one of our best”, said Head Coach Jason Cooper. “We allowed GRCC to dictate the pace but in the second half we came out with more intensity and our ball movement was an important piece to our victory.” Ty’veonna Davis (Muskegon) led the Jayhawks with 24 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 assists. Maiya Hill (Grand Rapids Union) added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Gaby Reeve (White Cloud) had her best day as a Jayhawk with 8 points and 6 boards.

The Jayhawks are now 2-1 in conference play and 8-8 overall. They will host North Central Michigan College on Saturday, 1/27. Tip off is at 1:00 pm.
