The Jayhawk Women’s Basketball team handed the Kirtland Community College team a 78-34 defeat on the road.

MCC found themselves down 13-11 after the 1st quarter but exploded for 25 2nd quarter points as they held Kirtland to 9. MCC enjoyed a 36-22 edge at the half and they continued to score at will as they cruised to the easy win. The Jayhawk defense caused 33 turnovers and they also had 20 steals. “Wow, what a hard earned win today,” said Coach Jason Cooper. “Finishing a road trip 2-0 after suffering some injuries is huge for us. We need to work to get healthy for the remaining season.” Ty’veonna Davis (Muskegon) finished just short of a double double with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 7 steals. McKena Wilson (Calvary Christian) scored 16 points and Ali Phillips (Mona Shores) had 11 points. Gaby Reeve (White Cloud) grabbed a team high 12 rebounds and added 8 points.

MCC is 5-2 in conference play and 11-9 overall. They travel to Delta College for a 5:30 tip off on Wednesday, 2/7.
