The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks defeated Owens Community College 72-65 in Perrysburg, OH.
MCC was able to overcome a slow start that saw them being outscored in the first quarter by a score of 19-13 to gain a tie at the half, 31-31. In the second half, they were able to use offensive rebounds to create second chance opportunities for a 51-44 lead after the third quarter and held on for the final 71-65.
Iyana Brown (Fruitport HS) led the Jayhawks on the stat sheet with a double double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Gracie Reinhold (Oakridge HS) also had a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, Tanae Hamer (Hudsonville HS) contributed 17 points and Yasmine Colon (Hart HS) added 12 points.
“I am happy to go into Christmas with a win,” said Head Coach Jason Cooper. “This was a hard fought game on the road against a very well coached opponent.”
MCC is now 7-1 in early season play. They return to action on Saturday, 12/28 with a 1:00 pm tip off at Henry Ford College.
