Muskegon Community College was awarded the forfeit win over Ancilla College after it was determined that Ancilla inadvertanly used an ineligible player.
Muskegon Community College lost to Ancilla College 96-88 in their first road conference game of the season. The Jayhawks overcame a slow start to battle the Chargers in a back and forth game. At halftime MCC was down 53-51 but fatigue set in and the team couldn’t get over the hump.
Elysia Mattos (Reeths-Puffer HS) led the Jayhawks with 24 points, Delaney Bolles (Reeths-Puffer HS) followed with 23 points and 16 rebounds and Yasmine Colon (Hart HS) contributed 17 points. Artrese Williams (Reeths-Puffer HS) added 16 points.
“Offensively we looked solid, but we cannot give up as many points as we have the last couple games,” said Head Coach Jason Cooper. “We have to get in the gym and improve our defense to prepare for the rest of the league. I am proud of how hard the girls are playing.”
MCC is now 0-2 in the Western Conference and 8-3 overall. They return to the court on Wednesday, 1/9 for a 5:30 pm home contest vs. Grand Rapids Community College.
