Muskegon Community College’s women’s basketball team fell to Grand Rapids Community College 51-47.
MCC had a great defensive first quarter, limiting GRCC to only 4 points, but the post players struggled to get untracked. In the second quarter it remained a low scoring game with MCC taking a 25-15 lead into the locker room at the half. In the third quarter it was all GRCC as they came out and put up 26 points and take a 41-36 lead. The Jayhawks continued to struggle on offense in the fourth as they didn’t score until the 8 minute mark. Yasmine Colon (Hart HS) hit a couple of crucial 3 pointers for the Jayhawks but it wasn’t enough to overtake the Raiders.
Elysia Mattos (Reeths-Puffer HS) led the team with 12 points. Colon and Mariah Pringle (Brethren HS) contributed nine points each and Delaney Bolles (Reeths-Puffer HS) had 12 rebounds. Shaina Figures (Ottawa Hills HS) added 7 points and 6 boards.
“It was a tough loss tonight,” said Head Coach Jason Cooper. “We didn’t come out with the intensity we needed to win the game.”
