Muskegon Community College’s women’s basketball team defeated the Kellogg Community College Bruins 73-68. The game was a battle from the beginning with MCC taking a 24-23 lead after one and a 46-34 lead at the half. The Bruins staged a comeback in the 3rd quarter but the Jayhawks hung on for 56-55 lead after 3 and they were able to put the game away in the 4th quarter.
Delaney Bolles (Reeths-Puffer HS) was the leading scorer for the Jayhawks putting 33 points on the board and grabbing 18 rebounds. Point guard Elysia Mattos (Reeths-Puffer HS) contributed 16 points and Shaina Figures (Ottawa Hills HS) was back in action today and helped the Jayhawks with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
“We got a good road win today,” said Head Coach Jason Cooper. “We played a very good first half but in the third quarter we didn’t have the same intensity. I’m glad that we pulled it off. Getting a win on the road in this conference is always tough so I am pleased we achieved that.”
The Jayhawks are 3-1 in Western Conference play and 11-2 overall. They return to the court on Wednesday, 1/16 when they host the Stars from Lansing Community College in a 5:30 pm contest.
