The Muskegon Community College Women’s basketball team defeated Lansing Community College in Lansing 82-67.
The Jayhawks used the fast break to set the tone early. They were able to execute on offense for a 24-16 lead after the first quarter. LCC tried a 2-2-1 press in an effort to slow the pace of the game, but MCC took advantange of their opportunities and built the lead to 42-27 at half time. In the third quarter the Jayhawks stayed consistent on offense and disciplined on defense and they maintained a 13 poinit lead, 62-49, after the third quarter and then cruised to the win.
Point guard Elysia Mattos (Reeths-Puffer HS) overcame a scoreless game on Wednesday and was the scoring leader with 23 points. Delaney Bolles (Reeths-Puffer HS) finished with 18 points and 19 rebounds, Artrese Williams (Reeths-Puffer HS) contributed 13 points and Gracie Reinhold (Oakridge HS) had 10 points.
“It was a great road win for us tonight,” said Head Coach Jason Cooper. “Our team had a great work ethic. I am proud of their development over the last week.”
The Jayhawks are now 12-2 in the Western Conference and remain in a tie with Lake Michigan College in first place. They are 20-3 overall. Next up is a home game vs. Kalamazoo Valley Community College on Wednesday, 2/20 at 5:30 pm.
