Muskegon Community College picked up a home victory over Grand Rapids Community College 69-56.
The Jayhawks grabbed a slim 18-17 lead after one quarter and took a 36-30 lead into the locker room at the half. They were able to stretch the lead to 60-45 after three quarters and despite being outscored in the fourth quarter they were able to close out the Raiders for the league win.
Point guard Elysia Mattos (Reeths-Puffer HS) finished as the top scorer for MCC with 30 points. Delaney Bolles (Reeths-Puffer HS) added a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds and Artrese Williams (Reeths-Puffer HS) scored 12.
“We had a solid win and we had some girls step up tonight which was instrumental to our growth,” said Head Coach Jason Cooper. “We are excited to be able to go 2-1 in conference. Hopefully we can continue to learn from here.”
MCC is now 2-1 in the Western Conference and 10-2 overall. They return to the court with a road game at Kellogg Community College on Saturday, 1/12. Tip off is 1:00 pm.
