The Jayhawk Women’s Basketball team defeated Kirtland Community College at Bartels-Rode Gymnasium by a final of 106-38.
MCC worked on staying confident and focused this week after a tough loss on Wednesday night at Mid Michigan. The hard work paid off as the Jayhawks jumped out to a 28-9 lead after the 1st quarter that was extended to a 51-20 lead at the half. The domination continued throughout the rest of the game with every Jayhawk player contributing to the total final points total. “It was a great all-around game today with our defense generated a lot of our offense,” said Head Coach Jason Cooper. “The shooting of our guards, especially Calla Miller was tremendous”! Miller (Fremont) led all scorers with 31 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals. Kendall Zoulek (Shelby) finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds, Karleigh Jeffries (Whitehall) had 12 points and 2 blocks, Kayla Fisk (Newaygo) had 11 points and 7 rebounds and Emmerson Goodin (Newaygo) had 10 points and 8 rebounds.
MCC is now 5-2 in conference play and 14-6 overall. They start the second half of conference competition with a home game vs. Delta College on Wednesday, 2/8 with a 5:30 pm tip.
