Muskegon Community College Jayhawks resumed conference play tonight with a 54-44 win over visiting Mid Michigan College.
The Jayhawks took an early lead in the first quarter but Mid Michigan went to a full court press and finished the quarter with an 18-12 lead. In the second quarter the Lakers were able to control play and headed into the locker room ahead 25-21. MCC upped their pace of play in the third quarter and finally regained the lead and held on for a 37-33 lead after three. Mid Michigan went cold in the fourth quarter, due to a good pressure defense by MCC for the final score.
Julia Tierman (Mona Shores HS) was a clear leader for the game with her energy as she scored 16 points. Nia Miskel (Muskegon HS) had a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds and Sophomore, Kacy Jeffries (Whitehall HS) added 10 points and 7 rebounds.
“We got a good win against a good team. We came out slow in the first half, but pulled it together as a team in the second half for the win,” said head coach Jason Cooper.
The Jayhawks are now 7-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play. Their next game is at Delta College on Tuesday, 3/16 at 5:30 p.m.
