Women’s Basketball Home vs. Schoolcraft College-MCCAA Championship

The Western Conference Champion MCC Jayhawks hosted the Eastern Conference Champion Schoolcraft College for the MCCAA State Championship. MCC defeated Schoolcraft 74-68 to claim the state title.

MCC built a 18-12 first quarter lead and added 28 second quarter points for a 46-28 half time lead. In the third quarter Schoolcraft held a slight scoring advantage and they used a fourth quarter press to climb back into the game but MCC was able to convert key free throws down the stretch to close out the victory.

“I’m so proud of how the team played tonight,” said Coach Jason Cooper. “It was a team effort to get this win!”

Leading the Jayhawks on the stat sheet were Mariah Pringle (Brethren) with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks and 5 assists. Julia Tierman (Mona Shores) scored 13 points and added 4 assists and 5 rebounds and Suzan Sisman (Marselisborg) chipped in with 10 points. MCC got balanced scoring up and down the bench as Ally Sieber (Reeths-Puffer) scored 9 and grabbed 7 rebounds, Trina Lewis (Reeths-Puffer) scored 8 points and 8 rebounds and Sydney Bol (Fruitport) added 8 points.

MCC takes their 15-3 conference and 22-4 overall record to Mott Community College for their NJCAA Great Lakes District A Championship Semi-Final game on Friday, 3/4 at 3:00 pm.
