The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks played the #8 seed Waubonsee Community College team to a 2-2 after two overtimes. MCC won the shootout 4-3 to earn the extra points in the pool play.
The two teams battle from the opening kick with MCC scoring first on a header from Lexi Bolles (Reeths-Puffer HS) off a corner kick from Sammy Hecht (Zeeland West). Waubonsee scored the next 2 goals and that stood up until about 7 minutes left in the game when MCC got the equalizer from Kendall Jones (Reeths-Puffer HS) on an impressive goal with an assist from Izzy Hammond (Ravenna HS). Neither team could find the back of the net in two overtimes, sending the game to a penalty kick shootout. Bolles, Hecht, Ellie Adams (Thornapple Kellogg HS) and Alexa Musk (Mona Shores HS) all converted their kicks. Rachel Wienclaw (Buckley HS) made and impressive save to secure the win.
The Jayhawks finished the season with a fine 10-2 record; their only losses coming from Division III National Champion Delta College and top ranked Phoenix College.
