The Jayhawk Wrestling Team had 5 wrestlers place at Triton College in the Art Kraft Memorial on Saturday.
Kayleb Venema (Whitehall) got back into the lineup this week and had an impressive run to the finals with a bonus point victory in each match before losing by fall in the final. “My heart just breaks for him, he was leading by points the whole match and made a costly mistake,” said Coach Brunger. “That said, I am truly happy for the whole team. This is our best effort as a team when it comes to both intensity and technique. We have been working on a lot of the fine details in practice, and it made a big difference in competition this week.” Also placing for the Jayhawks were Jacob Blawat (Reeths-Puffer) who finished 4th at 125 lbs, Aydan Sturtevant-Roesly (Hesperia) who was 6th at 125 lbs, Gerrit Andrus (Reeths-Puffer) who was 4th at 174 lbs and Dakota Veltman (Byron Center) who was 5th at 197 pounds. Also winning matches for the Jayhawks Kyler Kolk (Fremont), Rice Robins (Holton) and Max Brown (Whitehall). Brown also recorded an 8 second fall, tying the school record held by his high school teammate, Kayleb Venema, who set the record earlier this season.
