FIVE JAYHAWKS PLACE AT ALMA COLLEGE OPEN
Alma College – Alma, MI – Alma College Open – January 21, 2023
The Jayhawk wresters traveled to Alma College and finished with 5 placers. Kayleb Venema of Whitehall, Jacob Blawat of Reeths-Puffer and Dakota Veltman all finished in 4th place in their respective weights. Aydan Sturtevant-Roesley of Hesperia and Parker Holt of Whitehall each finished 6th. “This was a great tournament for us to prepare for the post-season and also for our guys to showcase their skills to 4-year colleges looking to recruit,” said Head Coach Mark Brunger. “There were schools from every college division here, including Michigan State University and Central Michigan. We hung in there and competed very well and even had a couple of wins versus the division I athletes. I’m very proud of the performance.” Also winning matches for the Jayhawks were Rice Robins of Holton, Gerrit Andrus of Reeths-Puffer and Max Brown of Whitehall. The Jayhawks return to the mats at the MCCAA Conference Championships on Saturday, 1/28 at St. Clair County Community College where they look to defend their back-to-back conference championships.
