JAYHAWK GRAPPLERS BLAWAT, ANDRUS AND VELTMAN WIN CONFERENCE TITLES
St. Clair County Community College – Port Huron, MI – MCCAA Wrestling Championships – January 29th, 2022.
Muskegon Community College had a strong showing at the MCCAA Conference Championship; as a team the Jayhawks finished in 2nd place behind Southwestern Michigan College. MCC got breakout performances from conference champions Jacob Blawat (Reeths-Puffer, 125lb), Gerrit Andrus (Reeths-Puffer, 174lb), and Dakota Veltman of Byron Center at 197lb. “I had a good feeling about the day, particularly for some of our guys that were falling just short of wins against their conference rivals this season,” said Head Coach Mark Brunger. “Blawat and Andrus both had multiple losses to their finals opponents, but our preparation and growth in the last few weeks has been promising. I was happy for them that their hard work was paying off, and they both avenged those previous losses and won championships”. Veltman stayed on his meteoric rise, winning by first period fall in the championship match. Also having great days with runner-up finishes were 2x MCCAA champion Kayleb Venema (Whitehall), who fell just short of his 3-peat bid, Aydan Sturtevant-Roesly (Hesperia) and Max Brown (Whitehall). Finishing 3rd were Rice Robins (Holton) and Jack Stuart (Boise), and in 4th place was Kyler Kolk (Fremont). Full results can be found by going to www.trackwrestling.com and searching MCCAA.
