MUSKEGON WRESTLERS BLAWAT, RICE AND VENEMA WIN JAYHAWK OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Muskegon Community College – Muskegon, MI – Jayhawk Open – February 5th, 2023

Muskegon Community College finished its regular season with 3 champions at the Jayhawk Open. At 125 pounds Jacob Blawat of Reeths-Puffer continued his recent tear, as he won both his matches to win the championship. Rice Robins of Holton had a breakout performance, winning his first championship of the season with a dominating day with 2 pins and 1 technical fall. Kayleb Venema (Whitehall) continued his excellent season, securing his 30th victory of the season with a championship at 184 pounds. “I’m really proud of the effort from these guys today, it would be easy to look past this day as we look ahead to the post-season and the national qualifier, but they kept their focus all week and really wrestled well from top to bottom,” said Coach Mark Brunger. Finishing in 2nd place were 133 pounder Aydan Sturtevant-Roesly (Hesperia), and 285 pounder Jack Stuart (Boise). Dakota Veltman (Byron Center) was 3rd in a very tough 197 pound bracket and Kyler Kolk (Fremont) was 4th at 157 pounds.

The Jayhawks next travel to Harper College for the Great Lakes District Championship National Qualifier.  Full results of the Jayhawk Open can be found by going to www.trackwrestling.com and searching Jayhawk Open.
