Marty McDermott

About

A native of Cascade, Iowa, Marty McDermott is entering his 14th year at Muskegon Community College. He spent his first nine years as Athletic Director and in 2015 took on additional responsibilities as the Dean of College Services and Athletics.

His area of responsibilities include: Athletics, Food Service, Book Store, Conference and Catering and the University Park Golf Course. Marty is involved in several committees on campus, including Crisis Prevention Team Chair, Student Services Council, Title IX investigator and the President’s Cabinet.

Marty spent 15 years coaching college basketball at several schools. Most recently, he served as Head Basketball Coach at Lake Superior State from 1997-2003 and the Head Basketball Coach and Associate Athletic Director at The University of Dubuque from 2003-2007.

He is active in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association, serving as President and Vice President during his tenue at MCC. He currently serves as the Western Conference Chair along with the Sports Chair for wrestling and track and field.

Marty is married to the former Rachel (Hanna) McDermott. They have two children, Mia, 19, and Evan, 17.
