Surgical Technology Program

Students from community colleges participating in EPIC and the Surgical Technology Program are eligible for entry. At this time, the program is only open to apprenticeship students.

In May 2022, the Education Partners in Collaboration (EPIC) consortium, with Muskegon Community College (MCC) serving as the host school, launched a Surgical Technology program, which is a U.S. Department of Labor registered apprenticeship program.

In order to enroll in the program, an individual must be employed and selected by one of the participating healthcare organizations: Corwell Health in Grand Rapids, Trinity Health in Grand Rapids and Muskegon, Spectrum Health Lakeland in Benton Harbor, Bronson Medical Center in Kalamazoo, and University of Michigan Health-West in Grand Rapids

Qualifying students must submit an application to Michigan Colleges Online, which will forward the names and contact information to MCC. MCC will then reach out to those students with information about enrolling in the classes. Prospective students must  have a FAFSA on file at their home colleges.

All classes are held online through Michigan Colleges Online, which is part of the Michigan Community College Association. Labs and clinical coursework will be held at the participating local healthcare agencies. The five-semester, 62-credit hour program leads to an Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology. The graduates will then be ready to take the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting national certification exam.
