Pearl Slayton -Self-Portrait Manipulating Picture Planes - First Place

The award winners in the 55th Annual MCC Student Art and Design Exhibition, featuring artwork of outstanding merit produced by leading student artists over the past academic year, were announced during a June 6 reception in Overbrook Art Gallery, where the exhibit continues through Sept. 18.

MCC’s art faculty selected the artwork from more than several thousands of student pieces produced during the past year. This year’s judges were Jay Constantine and Patricia Hendricks-Constantine, Professors of Art at Kendall College of Art and Design.

The winners are:

$400 First Place: Pearl Slayton – Drawing II: Self-Portrait Manipulating Picture Planes multi media

$300 Second Place: Mychalla Belknap – Drawing II: Value Range Study graphite

$200 Third Place: Ashley Aldecoa and Barbara Gilbert – 3-D Forms and Space: Six Degrees, modular installation, paper

$100 Honorable Mentions:

Alora Fox – Painting II: “Boneheaded Growth” Surrealistic-Inspired Composition acrylic on canvas

Addie Garter – Beginning Printmaking – Relief and Monotype  monotype

Isabelle Maier – 3-D Forms and Space: The Mysterious Benedict Society, Altered Book paper
Melissa Prince – Ceramics III: Untitled ceramics

President’s Purchase Award: Jill Black – Ceramics II: Untitled ceramics. The purchase award is chosen by MCC for display on campus as part of MCC’s Permanent Art Collection.
