The 58th annual Muskegon Community College Student Art and Design Exhibition in the Overbrook Art Gallery runs from May 16 through Sept. 8, 2022. Summer hours are 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Monday-Thursday.
Free and open to the public, the exhibit highlights outstanding artwork by MCC’s art and design students over the past academic year. Art and design faculty selected the featured artwork from among several thousand pieces produced by the students. Only a small portion of this total amount comprises the annual exhibit.
An artists’ reception will be held on Wednesday, June 1, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Gallery and adjacent Overbrook Theater Lobby. The Awards Ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Independent jurors, who are practicing art professionals, annually select the place awards. This year’s award juror is Rozlin Opolka an art instructor at Western Michigan University. The prizes to be given are $400 First Place, $300 Second Place, $200 Third Place, and $100 Honorable Mention. The President’s Purchase Award for artwork to be included in the Muskegon Community College permanent art collection will be announced by Dr. Dale Nesbary.
