Chamber of Commerce Funds MCC Student Attendance at Jan. 29 Economic Event

Thanks to the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce, fourteen Muskegon Community College business students will experience the 2021 Muskegon County Economic Outlook online presentation on Friday morning, Jan. 29.

Economist Dr. Paul Isely, of the Seidman College of Business at Grand Valley State University, will give his forecast encompassing regional and local industries and their recovery and transformation from the pandemic.

“At the Chamber we see this as a workforce development program,” explained Chamber President Cindy Larsen.  “Being able to see business and community leaders in action teaches professionalism and opens up the mind to the many career opportunities that are available here and their own hometown.”

The Chamber is underwriting the $40 per person fee for the students, who are enrolled in MCC Business Department faculty member Christopher VanOosterhout’s Introduction to Business class.

“Many of these students may not have had the opportunity to see and hear from leaders in the industry in a professional level environment,” said VanOosterhout, who has been exploring and implementing similar local and national partnerships involving about 75 students this year. “It is a real-world experience that extends our students’ coverage of content in the classroom.”
