2019 ahFest Film Fest: “Green Book”

On Wednesday evenings throughout October, the 2019 Muskegon Writers’ Series will show and discuss five films associated with “Hope,” the 2019 Muskegon Arts and Humanities Festival (ahFest) theme this year.

All the films will be shown at the Muskegon Museum of Art, 296 W Webster Ave. in downtown Muskegon. Admission is free. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and each film will promptly begin at 6 p.m. with a brief introduction by MCC English and Film instructor Mary Tyler. An optional discussion led by Tyler will follow each film.

October 9Green Book, a 2018 American biographical comedy-drama, was directed by Peter Farrelly. Set in 1962, the film is inspired by the true story of a tour of the Deep South by African American classical and jazz pianist Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) and Italian-American bouncer Frank “Tony Lip” Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen) who served as Shirley’s driver and bodyguard. The film won Academy Awards for the Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, and for Best Supporting Actor (Ali).
