Forum on Social Isolation at MCC Aug. 25

The public is invited to a forum on “Recognizing and Addressing Social Isolation and Loneliness in Older Adults” at MCC on Friday, Aug. 25, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Stevenson Center Room 1100.

Dr. Patrick Arbore, the founder of the Institute on Aging located in San Francisco, CA, and several local experts are the featured speakers. Each day, aging adults are faced with social and psychological challenges as a result of isolation and loneliness, leaving them more vulnerable to financial fraud, abuse, hoarding disorder, depression and even suicide.

“While this conference is initiated by the Tri County Prevention team, it is a collaborative effort with MCC’s Continuing Education Office,” said Mary Williams, who coordinates continuing education at the college. “This conference is open to all and could be a great information gathering for those who are majoring in Psychology, Medical Assisting as well as Nursing.  Our office will coordinate the acquisition of State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECH) for those licensed professionals.”

The cost is $30 person with Continuing Education Units (CEU) or $25 per person for the general public. Three credit hours of Social Work Continuing Education Units (SWCEU), SCECHs, and Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) are available.
