IN THE NEWS: MCC’s Role in Closing Area’s Talent Gap

Even as George Erickcek presented the most positive economic outlook since the Great Recession, the regional labor economist still pointed out a persistent cloud hanging over Muskegon. Muskegon County has a talent deficit, Erickcek said of employment and educational statistics. And it’s not going to go away, he told a Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce Business for Breakfast Friday, Jan. 31.

The most critical institution to help Muskegon close the talent gap is Muskegon Community College, Erickcek said.

“I love community colleges,” Erickcek said of institutions that are local and flexible enough to provide the education and training a community needs. “They are simply great. It is where we can start to make changes here. MCC is a great institution.”
