MCC Athletes Qualify for NJCAA Nationals

Muskegon Community College will be sending two different groups of athletes to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Nationals this month. The MCC Women’s Volleyball Team and MCC Cross Country runners, Kyler Dean (Vicksburg), Grace Lockhart (Reeths-Puffer) and Neva Hundt (Whitehall) each qualified to compete against their sports’ best junior college athletes in the U.S. 

The NJCAA Cross Country Nationals will take place in Tallahassee, Florida this Saturday, November 12.  

Kyler Dean finished as MCCAA Individual Champion and NJCAA Region XII Champion. Dean, MCC’s first ever Individual champion was also named Region XII and MCCAA Runner of the year. 

The MCC Women’s Volleyball Team will travel to Cedar Rapids, IA for the NJCAA D2 National Championship. The tournament kicks off Thursday Nov. 17 at the US Cellular Center. The team qualified for the national tournament after winning the 2022 NJCAA Great Lakes District B Championship. 

Reilly Murphy earned the NJCAA Great Lakes District B Most Valuable Player award for the 2022 season. The volleyball team’s coach, Rick Rykse was also named Coach of the Year for the district. 

MCC Volleyball enters the national tournament with a 30-6 record.  

Muskegon Community College offers 54 associate degree programs and 32 certificate programs in Muskegon, Newaygo, and Ottawa counties.
