MCC Hosts Blue Lake Fine Arts-Germany Press Conference

The cultural ties between Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp students and German youth will be highlighted during an international video press conference on Thursday, July 19, at 10 a.m. The event is free and open to the public and can be viewed in Muskegon Community College’s Room 351.

Detlef Gürth, the parliament president of the large German state of Sachsen Anhalt, will speak about the important cultural exchange between the two nations as well as the partnership his state government and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. A portion of the press conference will be open for questions, with translation, from media representatives in Sachsen Anhalt and via video conference, from media representatives in Michigan

MCC President Dr. Dale Nesbary, a Blue Lake Board of Trustees member, was a student in the Blue Lake International Exchange program in 1972. Since its inception in 1969, the exchange program has provided the opportunity for more than 11,000 Michigan students to participate in performing arts tours of Europe while hosting more than 600 European and Asian groups in the state of Michigan.

Meanwhile, MCC maintains a strong international link with Germany through its longtime exchange program in Stuttgart and with its daily broadcast on MCC TV of the German network Deutsche Welle.

Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, a summer school of the arts located in Twin Lake, MI, offers fine arts education for all ages. The summer camp annually serves over 6,000 gifted elementary, junior high, and high school students with diverse programs in music, art, dance, and drama, while offering public performances during its Summer Arts Festival.
