MCC Pays Tribute to the Late Fred Meijer

To MCC Colleagues:

With the passing of Fred Meijer on November 25th, I would like to pay tribute to the Meijer family. As you know, our Hendrik Meijer Library/Information Technology Center was made possible with a very generous donation from Fred Meijer’s son, Hank, who continues the family’s legacy of philanthropy and pioneering spirit in the areas of health and education. Fred (and his father, Hendrik) instilled in his family the value of “paying forward” to the community in which you live and work.

For those of you who have grown up in the Muskegon area, I imagine you will always remember the first “Thrifty Acres” store which opened here in the 1960s. The Meijer family has never forgotten their roots, and the importance of giving back. The MCC Library is an invaluable resource to our students and the community, and we are proud to bear the Meijer name on this great facility.

Sincerely,

Dale Nesbary, Ph.D.
President
