MCC Social Scientists to Discuss “The Politics of Memorials” on April 10

MCC Social Sciences faculty members Kurt Troutman and Nicholas Budimir will discuss “Bigotry in Bronze, The Flags of Our Fathers: The Politics of Memorials” on Wednesday, April 10, at 5 p.m. in the Blue and Gold Room.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will include an opportunity for public comments and discussion.

The presenters will consider the political conflicts over monuments and flags considered offensive or racist. Fights over the removal of Confederate monuments and flags have featured prominently in the news. Troutman and Budimir will examine the history and context of Confederate memorialization, the current political movement for removal and an international comparison.
