MCC’s Stephanie Carr has been competitively selected for participation in an interactive online learning opportunity offered by NASA Community College Aerospace Scholar (NCAS) on May 27-July 1, 2020.
As part of the NCAS program, students will participate in a five-week online workshop, consisting of discussions, live video chats with NASA experts and various mission design challenges. Students will then apply for the opportunity to spend four days at a NASA center, getting an inside look at NASA missions and science, networking with NASA scientists and engineers, and developing a presentation to showcase their work to a panel of judges.
A 2015 graduate of North Muskegon High School, Carr is the acting president and a founder of MCC’s chapter, Nu Nu, of Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU), the International Geographical Honor Society. She also works as a Geography tutor and as a technology assistant at Muskegon’s Hackley Public Library. In 2020, she was selected to represent the East Lakes Division of the American Association of Geographers in the annual World GeoBowl.
MCC Geography Instructor Rudy Bartels sponsored her NCAS application, while faculty member Diana Casey serves as a mentor.
Carr, upon completing her studies at MCC, is prepared to earn a bachelor’s degree in geography, focusing upon environmental analysis and resource management, at Western Michigan University.
