‘Once Upon a Time: Stories of the Season’ Dec. 2-5

Stories of the Season in Overbrook Theater

“Once Upon a Time: Stories of the Season” will be presented by Muskegon Community College’s Center for Theater on Wednesday-Saturday, Dec. 2-5 in Overbrook Theater.

Tickets for the performances, which all begin at 7:30 p.m., go on sale Monday, Nov. 23, at the Overbrook Theater Box Office. Tickets are $10 for the public and $5 for MCC students, staff, and faculty. You may reserve tickets by calling (231) 777-0234.

The stories from around the world have been adapted for the stage by Tom Harryman, Kristopher Arnold, Claire Beaman, Elizabeth Robin Carpenter, Hannah Erdman, D’marco Hughes, Adrianne Lewis, Amber Parker, Pleachette Riley, and Dakotah Salazar.

The featured stories include:

  • “A Christmas Ghost” by Pearl S. Buck
  • “The Little Match Girl” by Hans Christian Andersen
  • “Raven Steals the Light,” an Inuit tale by Carolyn Edwards
  • “The Three Tests,” a Kwanzaa tale
  • “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry
  • “Der Belznickel” by S. E. Sclosser

In addition to the stories there will be poetry and festive songs.

“Once Upon a Time: Stories of the Season” is directed by MCC Theater Instructor Tom Harryman with assistance by MCC Student Director Deanna Runions.

The cast includes MCC student actors Kristopher Arnold, Claire Beaman, Elizabeth Robin Carpenter, Hannah Erdman, D’marco Hughes, Adrianne Lewis, Amber Parker, Pleachette Riley and Dakotah Salazar. Technical assistance for the production is given by Sheila Wahamaki, Brian Goodman, and Susan Eyler.
