Public invited to speak about MCC’s Nursing Program

Muskegon, MI: On Wednesday, November 2, members of the public are invited to Muskegon Community College (MCC) to share their comments about MCC’s nursing program in order to aid in the accreditation of its licensed practical nursing program. Those who have completed the nursing program, or are considering enrolling, are especially encouraged to attend. This event will take place at 4:00 p.m. in the Blue and Gold Room of MCC’s Main Campus located at 221 S. Quarterline Rd., Muskegon, MI 49442.

Chris Patterson, Director of Nursing and Health Programs, said the College is delighted to be hosting the ACEN which accredited the Registered Nurse (RN) Program in 2006. “Nursing is one of the most popular and successful programs offered by Muskegon Community College and we enjoy a great deal of support from our community health leaders and partners that help us deliver real-world experiences for our students.”

MCC is hosting a site visit on November 1 through 3 for the initial accreditation of the practical nursing program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

“This ACEN evaluation is a true test of the quality of the PN portion of our program, requiring that the faculty and staff conduct a complete analysis of our student performance and satisfaction, our staff, our curriculum, and the college,” Patterson added. Just last month, MCC’s licensed practical nursing (LPN) program was ranked number one in the state of Michigan by NursingProcess.org.

The MCC nursing department has been admitting students since 1961, when the college had only a licensed professional nursing program. In 1981, the department merged with the Hackley Hospital School of Nursing and created the laddered associate degree program, maintaining the LPN option for students.

Written comments are also welcome and should be submitted directly to Dr. Marsal Stoll, Chief Executive Officer, Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, 3390
