Shoreline Symphony Dedicates March 9 Concert to Its Founding Director

The Shoreline Symphony will present “Remix: Carmen Suites and a Few New Groves” on Saturday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m., at the Frauenthal Center, 425 West Western Ave., in downtown Muskegon.

The concert, the Shoreline Symphony’s second of the 2018-2019 season, is dedicated to the memory of its founding director, Annette Jurcevic, who passed away on January 21.

Melissa Meyers, Chair of Music and Director of Orchestra at Grand Haven High School, is the guest conductor. The works on the program include:

  • Carmen Suite 1 and 2
  • Carmen Fantasy by Rosenblatt, a clarinet solo featuring Howard Meade with Emily Grabinski accompanying on piano
  • Rhosymedre by Vaughan Williams
  • Meditation from Serenade for Strings by Jack Jarrett.

This will be one-hour program without an intermission. Admission is $10 for adults and $2 for students and children under 18. Tickets are available through the Frauenthal Center.  To purchase them, call the Frauenthal box office at (231) 727-8001 or visit www.frauenthal.org.

Beginning at 7 p.m. before the concert, Foley Schuler, radio host at Blue Lake Public Radio, will present the background of the works being performed. Audience members are invited learn about the creative process of composing this music, the music itself, and the composers who wrote it.

Established in September 2012, the Shoreline Symphony is celebrating its seventh season of creating quality classical music for Muskegon area audiences.  Organized by founding director S. Annette Jurcevic, the Shoreline Symphony brings together professional and amateur musicians who play alongside students and faculty from several area colleges and universities.  It is the only all-volunteer orchestra in the Muskegon area to include woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings.
