Symphony Presents ‘French Connection’ on Nov. 21

French Connection Concert

The Shoreline Symphony will present a free performance entitled “French Connection” on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the MCC Overbrook Theater.

The concert program includes orchestral and chamber works by French composers. Two of the pieces, both by Camille Saint-Saëns, feature soloists. Pianist Solee Lee-Clark will play his Piano Concerto No.2 in G Minor, op. 22. Lee-Clark is an adjunct instructor at MCC and the organist at First Congregational Church UCC in Muskegon. Violinist Courtney Hutson, Shoreline Symphony’s concertmaster, will play Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre, op. 40.

Additional works on the program include:

  • Maurice Ravel’s Pavane for a Dead Princess
  • Jean Berger’s Souvenirs de France, played by a string trio
  • Excerpts from Georges Bizet’s L’Arlésienne Suites Nos. 1 and 2
  • “March and Procession of Bacchus” from Léo Delibes’ opera, Sylvia

Preceding the concert at 7 p.m., Shoreline Symphony Director Annette Jurcevic will host a brief discussion along with the soloists. Audience members are invited to ask questions and participate in a dialogue about the music and the composers.

Established in September 2012, the Shoreline Symphony Community Orchestra is celebrating its third season of creating quality classical music for Muskegon area audiences. Led by Jurcevic, its founding director, the Shoreline Symphony Community Orchestra brings together professional and amateur musicians who play alongside students and faculty from several area colleges and universities. It is the only all-volunteer orchestra in the Muskegon area to include woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings.
