Non-Degree Seeking Students

The College has suspended all on campus activities but we are still here to help you virtually and over the phone. Faculty and Staff are working remotely to ensure that students’ needs are being met. Please contact Admissions at admissions@muskegoncc.edu for assistance.

 

A non-degree seeking student is defined as a student looking to take college courses at Muskegon Community College but not seeking to obtain a degree. A guest student is categorized as either a College Guest or a a Community Guest.

 

College Guest

Students attending other colleges or universities within the state may be admitted as college guests by filing a Michigan Undergraduate Guest Application in addition to the online application.

Guests should develop a program of study with an adviser at their home institution to ensure proper course selection and credit transfer. College Guest status must be renewed each semester.

Please follow the following steps to ensure an effortless college guest experience:

  1. Consult your adviser at your primary institution to ensure appropriate course selection to meet your transfer requirements.
  2. Apply for admission, and complete the Michigan Undergraduate Guest Application.
    1. Complete Part I of the Michigan Uniform Undergraduate Guest Application by printing clearly or typing, then signing the application.
    2. Ask an official at your current institution to complete Part II and submit the application to MCC’s Admissions office one of the following ways:

  1. You will be notified via the email address on your Michigan Undergraduate Guest Application that MCC has received and processed the application.
    1. Transcripts, placement testing, and new student orientation are not required for college guest students that have filled out the proper forms and have been notified.
  2. Register and pay for classes.
    1. Guest students pay all tuition and fees, they do not qualify for financial aid.
      1. With the exception of T.I.P. for previously qualified students.
  3. Request an official transcript be sent to your home institution after completion of the semester.

  • Request to Change Your Start Date:  If you applied for the wrong semester, you can request to have it be changed by completing our Start Date Change Form.  This will NOT change your program (see above section), but just your start date.
  • Change Your Program of Study:  Muskegon Community College is a great place to explore different fields to find the perfect match for your skills, interests and goals. Many college students change their major at least once before graduation. If you’ve decided you want to change your program, it’s no problem, although you should meet with a counselor in the Counseling and Advising Center to make sure you’re taking the courses you need to reach your new goals. To make the change official, complete and submit the Program Change Form. If you receive this error message when you attempt to register for classes:

    – Registration not allowed in UG courses without an academic program – 

    You will need to complete and submit the Program Change Form. This means you have a program listed which is no longer offered at the college or you have never had a valid academic program entered for you. If you have questions, contact the Counseling and Advising Center at 231-777-0362.

Community Guest

If you have not completed high school or the GED, or wish to take selected courses without the intent of earning a degree, certificate, or diploma, you may be admitted as a Community Guest Student. You will be eligible to change to a Degree Seeking Student at any point, upon submitting your high school transcript, GED, test scores and submitting a Program Change Form.

Please follow the following steps to ensure for an effortless community guest experience:

  1. Complete the free MCC Application muskegoncc.edu/apply
  2. Complete Placement Testing muskegoncc.edu/testingif applicable
  3. Complete mandatory Title IX Sexual Assault Prevention for Community Colleges Training
  4. Complete New Student Orientation
  5. Register for pay for classes
