College welcomes West Michigan based Shakespeare company to Overbrook Theater

Muskegon Community College (MCC) and The Center for Theater will host the Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company at the Overbrook Theater on March 23 at 7:30 p.m., for a performance of William Shakespeare’s tragicomedy, “Measure for Measure.”

Pigeon Creek Shakespeare, renowned for using the original theatrical practices of the acting companies of Shakespeare’s time, is Michigan’s only year-round, touring, and professional Shakespeare company. While the performances are performed without special lighting or effects, Pigeon Creek’s audience members experience a lively, interactive theatre experience, with live musical interludes, cross-gendered casting, and characters speaking directly to the audience.

“Muskegon Community College is extremely proud to welcome the esteemed Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company to the Overbrook Theater,” said Center for Theater Director Les Rorick. “Their body of work speaks for itself, and we look forward to establishing an artistic partnership with them for years to come.”

Measure for Measure unfolds in the vibrant city of Vienna, where the Duke’s abrupt departure leaves Deputy Angelo in charge, leading to a series of moral dilemmas and clashes. The script’s intricate plot and quirky characters provide a blend of comedy and near-tragedy, while the play is regarded by historians as a Shakespearean masterpiece.

Tickets for this one night only event are priced at $10 for MCC students and staff, and $15 for the general public. Secure your seats now through the Overbook Theater box office by visiting https://mccoverbrooktheater.ludus.com or calling 231-777-0324.
