MCC Announces Winners Of Student Art Competition
Tuesday, June 4, 2024
Muskegon Community College (MCC) has announced the artists who have taken top honors in the college’s Annual Student Art Exhibition.
Now in its 60th year, the competition showcases the outstanding artistic achievements of MCC students from the previous three semesters in various art disciplines.
In total, 8 student artists took home cash prizes, with first place honors going to Joshua Anderson for his assemblage sculpture, “Reluctantly I Made War, now I Make Art.” Meanwhile, Jaiver Lopez’s pencil drawing of the college’s campus earned the President’s Purchase Award, securing its place as a permanent addition to the MCC Art Collection.
“I am deeply impressed by the exceptional talent demonstrated by our student artists,” Muskegon Community College President John Selmon said. “At MCC, we believe that a well-rounded education must include opportunities for artistic expression and development. I am proud to see our students excel in this area and showcase their talents to the community.”
While the awards ceremony took place May 31st, the gallery and exhibit will remain free and open to the public until September 4th.
