Graphic Design Instructor Earns Prestigious Institutional Excellence Award

Kevin Kyser

The LAND Institutional Excellence Award is bestowed upon individuals or teams that demonstrate outstanding collaboration and teamwork in designing, implementing, assessing, or advocating for innovative courses, projects, or programs that significantly impact the liberal arts curriculum.

Over the past few years, Kyser, as an instructor and key member of the Graphic Design Department, has played a pivotal role in transforming the entire Graphic Design program. Under Kyser’s leadership, the Graphic Design program now offers an associate in graphic design for students aspiring to enter the workforce or transfer to a four-year university. Additionally, a unique Graphic Design Entrepreneurship associate degree has been introduced for students focused on launching freelance businesses.

The results of Kyser’s initiatives speak for themselves, with students in the Graphic Design Programs achieving high success rates and retention rates on campus. The program’s warm and collaborative classroom environment fosters a tight-knit community of learners who continue to support each other even after graduation. Kyser incorporates regular input from industry professionals and opportunities for students to create projects for real-world clients.

“It’s my privilege to pass along knowledge I’ve gained throughout my career to better equip students for a promising future and a rewarding career in graphic design,” Kyser said. “I hope this recognition not only shines a light on our program but also MCC and our talented and dedicated students, faculty, and staff.”

In addition to the honor, Kyser will receive a cash prize of $1,000, used to further support the Graphics Design Program at Muskegon Community College.
