Networking Students getting access to online remote laboratory next semester

Muskegon Community College (MCC) is proud to announce that beginning in the Winter of 2024, MCC will offer access to Netlab hardware as an educational resource to networking students. NetLab, an innovative online remote laboratory, allows students to conduct experiments on real laboratory equipment off campus.

Starting next semester, students will be able to incorporate Netlab into their coursework, including online CISCO classes offered by MCC. While the networking hardware for Netlab is housed at the Sturrus Technology Center, students will be able to use their laptops to engage in computer networking assignments from anywhere.

Mark Verhoeven, a computer networking instructor at MCC, has championed the installation and implementation of NDG (Network Development Group) Netlab for nearly three years.

“In 2020, the pandemic brought our in-person classes to a halt, and I recognized that our networking program needed a solution to enable students to continue their hands-on learning,” said Verhoeven. “We have an exceptional networking lab with real CISCO routers and switches on campus, but when students can’t physically be there, it becomes impossible for them to complete their coursework. Netlab allows students to complete the same work remotely from any internet-connected computer.”

Muskegon Community College has been a pillar of the community for nearly a century, offering a wide range of academic programs and resources to empower its students for success. The addition of Netlab further enhances the educational experience and opportunities available to MCC students.
