The Michigan Reconnect program pays in-district tuition for Michiganders 21 or older*, who do not have a college degree but would like to earn a certificate or an associate degree at a community college.

Ages 25+ MUST complete FAFSA, Apply to MCC, and Apply to MI Reconnect as soon as possible
Ages 21 to 24 MUST complete FAFSA and apply to MCC first, and then wait until mid-August to apply for MI Reconnect

To be eligible for Michigan Reconnect you must:

• Be at least 21 years of age. (SEE ABOVE FOR APPLICATION DATES)
• Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and use the MCC Code
• Apply to Muskegon Community College (in-district tuition means you live within Muskegon County)
• Apply for MI Reconnect and enroll in a community or tribal college. (Apply After Mid-August if you are 21 to 24 years old)
• Have lived in Michigan since July 1 of the previous calendar year.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent or certificate of completion.
• Have not yet completed a college degree.
• Reach out to our Financial Aid Office for additional information on applying your Reconnect Scholarship to your tuition bill.
• Out-of-District Tuition Costs:
  Reconnect pays only the in-district tuition for any of Michigan’s public community colleges. You will be responsible
  for covering the difference – at Muskegon Community College this means tuition would be 50% off. You can also apply for other scholarships, awards, or financial aid to cover the difference.

What does MI Reconnect cover?

The program covers tuition and mandatory fees at the in-county rate for an occupational certificate or an associate degree. This is a last dollar scholarship which means it covers costs after all other financial aid is applied. This program does NOT cover cost such as books, course fees, or class materials. Students who live outside of Muskegon County will still be able to receive the MI Reconnect scholarship, but their certificate or associate degree will be 50% off the cost of tuition. This is because students will pay the difference between the in-county and out-of-county rate.
