Lecture Series Explores Future of DEI at Colleges

Thursday, September 18, 2025
Muskegon Community College (MCC) will host a lecture and panel discussion, “Is DEI Dead or Evolving? The Future of Diversity on College Campuses,” on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 2:30 PM in the Stevenson Center wing of MCC’s Main Campus located at 221 S. Quarterline Rd.
Panelists will discuss how recent federal and state actions are reshaping Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts in higher education, and what the future may hold moving forward.
On February 14, 2025, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights issued a Dear Colleague Letter directing federally funded schools to eliminate race-based DEI practices or risk losing financial government assistance. Colleges across the country (including MCC) have since reduced or shut down DEI programs in response.
“At Muskegon Community College, we want to give our students and community the opportunity to understand how these changes may affect higher education,” said Dr. Andy Wible, MCC Faculty. “This event will have a variety of views on the role of diversity efforts at college campuses with plenty of time for questions and conversation with the audience. Everyone is welcome!”
