Students to discuss societal impact of AI in new course
Friday, December 12, 2025
Starting on Tuesday, January 13, 2025, adults will have the opportunity to learn more about an elusive and popular subject: artificial intelligence (AI) through a new online course offered by Muskegon Community College.
Through case studies, workshops, and practical exercises, students will learn to understand the building blocks of AI, explore its societal impact, apply AI in various business contexts, master prompt engineering for Large Language Models (LLMs), and even build simple AI workflows and agents without code, culminating in the brainstorming and planning of their own AI projects. Students enrolled in the course will meet every Tuesday through the end of April.
“Artificial Intelligence training is rapidly becoming an essential skill across nearly every career path,” said MCC Director of Admissions, Sarah Luker. “By introducing AI coursework, MCC is giving our students the tools they need to be competitive, career-ready graduates.”
To help make college courses like these more affordable, Muskegon Community College is offering a wide variety of financial aid options including free in-district tuition for 2025 high school graduates, adults age 25 and older who do not yet have their degree or certificate, and adults who graduated within the past four years and were enrolled in Medicaid for at least 24 months as children. Adults can determine eligibility for these programs by completing the FAFSA at fafsa.gov.
The new AI class begins January 13, 2026. Space is limited. Those interested in registering must do so by January 6, 2026, and can get started here.
