Detroit NAACP President set as MLK Unity Breakfast Keynote in Muskegon

The 29th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast of the Lakeshore will be held Friday, January 16, 2026, at the VanDyk Mortgage Convention Center in downtown Muskegon. Hosted by Muskegon Community College, the event will run from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The breakfast will feature Reverend Dr. Wendell Anthony as the keynote speaker.

Currently, Rev. Dr. Anthony is serving his 17th term as President of the Detroit Branch NAACP, a position he has held for 30 years, and is a member of the NAACP National Board of Directors. Following the keynote address, a panel discussion with local leaders will take place, focusing on the theme “Uniting Faith and Community.”

Panelists include:

  • Jocelyn Hines — Moderator, Development Analyst, City of Muskegon; Founder and Chair, Muskegon Young Black Professionals
  • Marria McIntosh — Housing, President and CEO, Thredz.org
  • Pastor Demetrio “Dee-Dee” Dockery — Faith and Corporate, Senior Pastor, New Light Baptist Church; Gas Operations Supervisor, DTE Energy
  • Dr. John Selmon — Education, President, Muskegon Community College
  • Lisa Tyler — Nonprofit, President and CEO, United Way of the Lakeshore
