Thursday, February 19, 2026

Muskegon Community College will host the third and final installment of its Centennial Lecture Series on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 6:15 p.m. in Collegiate Hall on the main campus, 221 S. Quarterline Road. The event is free and open to the public.

The lecture, titled “The Expansion of the Dream,” will examine the period from 1997 to 2026, with an emphasis on the College’s growth in facilities, outreach, and mission during that time.

The program will review the construction of several major campus buildings, including the Meijer Library, the Life Sciences Facility, the Art and Music Building, the Sturrus Technology Center, and the Health and Wellness Building. It will also address the College’s geographic expansion into Newaygo, Ottawa, and Oceana counties, broadening access to MCC programs and services.

The Centennial Lecture Series is designed to provide historical context for the institution’s development over the past 100 years, examining how key decisions and investments shaped its current structure and operations.

“When you walk across campus, it’s easy to forget that every space was once just an idea,” said George Maniates, Department Chair of Social Sciences at Muskegon Community College. “The period we’re discussing was about turning ideas into reality—about responding to community needs and making room for more students. Looking back at that time helps us appreciate the people and the purpose behind the growth.”

Muskegon Community College will celebrate its 100th anniversary on June 20, 2026. Since Its founding a century ago, MCC has been a cornerstone of the Lakeshore, shaping generations of students, strengthening the local workforce, and enriching the cultural and economic vitality of West Michigan.

The yearlong celebration and events aim to highlight 100 years of excellence at MCC, while looking forward to the next century of preparing students, building communities, and improving lives.
