Muskegon Promise expansion ‘opens doors to so many’ says MCC
Monday, March 30, 2026
Muskegon Community College will host two upcoming Muskegon Promise 101 sessions to provide information about the recent expansion of the Muskegon Promise, Muskegon Promise, financial aid, admissions, and available student resources. The events are open to prospective students, families, and community members seeking guidance on how to access tuition assistance and enroll at the College.
A virtual session will be held March 30, 2026, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by an in-person session on June 16, 2026, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Stevenson Center, Room 1300, on MCC’s main campus at 221 S. Quarterline Road. College staff from admissions and financial aid will be available to answer questions and provide step-by-step assistance. Light refreshments will be offered at the in-person session.
As of March 2026, the Muskegon Area Promise Scholarship has eliminated GPA requirements for students admitted to Muskegon Community College, making the scholarship available to all qualified Muskegon County high school graduates. Previously, students were required to meet minimum GPA thresholds ranging from 3.25 to 3.4.
The updated policy removes those requirements to expand access to tuition assistance.
“There has never been a better time for Muskegon County high school graduates to learn how the Promise works,” said Muskegon Community College Director of Admissions Sarah Luker. “The expansion of the Promise opens the door for so many more students across Muskegon County to access a college education here at MCC.”
The scholarship continues to require an annual FAFSA submission and applies to graduates of Muskegon County high schools, while students and families should note that these updated eligibility requirements will take effect beginning with the Fall 2026 semester and do not apply for MCC’s upcoming summer classes. The Muskegon Promise is available exclusively to students who graduated in 2015 or later.
