Local Spoken Word Artists to Take Center Stage

Tuesday, March 31, 2026

Muskegon Community College’s (MCC) Sigma Kappa Delta (SKD) chapter, Sigma Zeta, will host a poetry open mic night on Thursday, April 9, offering an evening of poetry and creative expression for the MCC community and the public. The event will be held from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Community House Coffee House and Social, 4095 Grand Haven Road, Norton Shores. Poets take the stage at 7:00.

The first 25 poets to register will be guaranteed a spot to perform. Participants are encouraged to arrive early to secure a place on the mic and share their original work. Attendees can also enjoy live performances and support local artists and the Community House.

“Every year, I’m amazed by the creativity and skill of the poets who take the stage, said MCC English Faculty Sean Colcleasure. “Their beautiful work not only showcases the rich artistic tradition of Muskegon County but also offers a window into the struggles, differences, and complicated lives of so many of our neighbors.”
