Why Data Science?
Muskegon Community College’s Data Science program prepares students to thrive in one of today’s fastest-growing and most in-demand fields. Through hands-on learning and real-world applications, students gain the technical, analytical, and communication skills needed to transform data into meaningful insights and informed decision-making.
What will I learn?
Students in the program will learn end-to-end programming while developing the knowledge and experience needed to ethically work with, establish, and maintain databases. Coursework emphasizes both the technical and human sides of data science, ensuring graduates understand how to responsibly collect, analyze, interpret, and communicate information in a rapidly evolving digital world.
The program develops competency in key areas including artificial intelligence, data analysis, data engineering, causal inference, and data visualization. Students will work with modern tools and technologies used throughout the industry while exploring how data can data can be applied across many sectors, including business.
In addition to technical expertise, the program focuses heavily on teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills. Students will practice presenting data and insights clearly and effectively to relevant stakeholders, preparing them for careers where the ability to explain complex information is just as valuable as the ability to analyze it.
Future Tech Grant Program

MCC’s Data Science program is also supported through the FutureTech Grant Program, which helps provide resources for the college’s Artificial Intelligence coursework and broader Data Science initiatives. Through FutureTech, eligible students may also qualify for tuition assistance and additional support as they prepare for careers in emerging technology fields.
