Jovita Weibel is a Swiss choreographer, dance educator, and performer. While earning a degree in Education, she trained at AT Dance and the Zurich Opera House in Switzerland, as well as at Vacani School of Dance and Pineapple Studios in London, amongst others. Following several years of extensive dance training and international touring, she completed a BFA in Dance at The Ohio State University and the University of Toledo, and in 2000 earned her MFA in Dance with an emphasis in performance, choreography, and dance history from the University of Michigan, where she also taught courses in the Dance Department. In the USA, Jovita has performed with companies such as The Peter Sparling Dance Company and Ann Arbor Dance Works. She has served on the Dance Faculty at both the University of Toledo and Hillsdale College. Back overseas she then headed the Contemporary Dance Program at the Conservatoire de Fribourg in Switzerland for 16 years. Jovita is a certified Contemporary Humphrey-Limón teacher and a certified Stott Pilates instructor. She has choreographed extensively across Europe and the United States. Jovita has recently relocated to West Michigan. As a freelance artist she is setting choreography at various Colleges across Southern Michigan, most recently for the GVSU Dance Company. At the Muskegon Community College, where she has been tasked with the restoration and the revision of the dance program, she is scheduled to teach Modern Dance, Ballet, Dance Appreciation, and Pilates.
